Korea to Urge EU to Remove Import Tariff Early

Form: By: Time:2007-11-19
Korean trade negotiators are poised to persuade their European Union counterparts to allow for an early removal of import tariffs on key Korean export items including cars and electronic goods.

The two sides are to meet for five days in Brussels starting next Monday for the fifth round of negotiations aimed at signing a bilateral free trade agreement.

During previous negotiations EU delegates had spoken of intentions to maintain tariffs on cars and electronic appliances for up to seven years.

With exports reaching US$48 billion, the EU is the second-largest market for Korean products after China.
